In 1941 Walt Disney and 16 others from the Walt Disney Studios visited South America. The U.S. Government asked Walt to be a ‘cultural ambassador’ to South America, which Walt accepted with the stipulation that he make the trip with his artists to learn more about the culture, and to develop ideas only Disney could share with the world in the form of art and stories. The group’s goodwill tour paved the way for two classic Disney films – “Saludos Amigos” and “The Three Caballeros“. Walt and the group loved, and were inspired by their time in South America. We are happy to welcome World Cup fans from South America and around the world to visit Marceline.
As World Cup soccer runs into to Kansas City on June 11, 2026, Marceline is excited to be a short 2-hour drive to Walt’s hometown. We’re excited to share Walt’s life and our small town kindness with visitors to our tiny town. Learn more about the World Cup 2026 in Kansas City.
